PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT AND INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS (PMIR)
The Post Graduate Department of Personnel Management and Industrial Relations has the advantage of being a part of the great academic institution, Utkal University, which is the premier and mother university of the state of Odisha. This took its birth as an independent department, i.e. Department of Labour Welfare in the year 1974. With the need of time, it was renamed as Department of Personnel management and Industrial Relations, popularly known as PM&IR, in the year 1998-99.The Department works with the objective of providing trainingthrough a well developedcurriculum to deal with the problems and challenges of managing and developing human resource in organizations. The Department endeavours to develop professional HR managers for the corporate sector and public system, through its well designed two-year regular Management Program, Master in Personnel Management & Industrial Relations (MPM&IR). Ourstudents are our strength and alumni are our path showers.The department proves its worth through the excellence, achievedby its products.Curriculum:With the increasing demand for HR professionals, the department administers a realistic course curriculum with regular modifications by experts. The two-year post graduate programme on Personnel Management & Industrial Relations, covers a detail curriculum in 4 semesters and the timing of semesters are as follows: SEMESTER – I (July – December) SEMESTER – II (January – June)SEMESTER – III (July – December) SEMESTER– IV (January – June)Admission ProcedureAny graduate securing 50% marks in aggregate shall be eligible for admission into Master in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations.The admission will be on career-cum-entrance test basis. Career marking will be based on division securedin HSC, +2 and+3 examinations.
M.A. in SOCIAL WORK
The two year post graduate degree course leading to the Master of Arts in Social Work of Utkal University shall be spread over a period of two academic years. Each academic year comprises of two semesters namely the Odd and Even Semester.A candidate for the Master of Social Work shall be required to pass the following examinations.End Semester Examination – I End Semester Examination – II End Semester Examination – III End Semester Examination – IV Internal Assessment for Fieldwork in semesters I – IV External Examination for Fieldwork in semesters I – IV Internal Assessment for Dissertation in semester IV External Examination for Dissertation in semester IV A candidate shall be eligible to appear for the oncoming semester courses subsequent to the first semesterUniversity examinations respectively irrespective of declaration of the results in the previous semester but.Candidate who fails in the odd semester examinations shall be eligible to appear for the examination in which s/he has failed in the next odd semester and vice versa.Students who have failed in a semester or are desirous to improve their performance will be as per University rules.A candidate for the Master of Arts in Social Work Examination shall be required to enroll himself / herself under these conditions as a student in one of the colleges affiliated to this University. Admission Criteria:Any person who has passed the Under Graduate Degree in any subject with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate or in Honours papers; (General candidates) and 45% marks (SC/ST/OBC candidates) from an examination conducted by a recognized University is eligible to be admitted to the 1st Semester of this course. Students from SC/ST have to apply with valid caste certificate.
B. A Social Work (BSW)
THE COURSEB. A Social Work (BSW) is a professional degree majoring in the field of social work offered at the undergraduate (UG) level. Typically, BSW degree course has a duration of three years that is further divided into six semesters. In some cases, candidates need to mandatorily complete the course within a maximum duration of six years. Candidates can undertake BSW as a full-time course. BSW course comprises of three major parts including foundation course, elective course and fieldwork. Some common topics that candidates need to study in a BSW course include Introduction to Social Work, Social Problems in India, Social Work Research & Statistics and Social Work Administration.ELIGIBILITIES CRITERIACandidates must pass Class 12 from a recognized board.OBJECTIVESThe objectives of the B. A Social Work (BSW) Course is to provide students with the knowledge, values, skills, and cognitive and affective processes of the social work profession, integrated with a liberal arts education. Utilizing a generalist framework, the BSW Program provides the basis for practice within the context of a multicultural environment. Special attention is given to Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and Asian communities of our state and the Pacific Region, as they interact within a global context. A social worker helps individuals cope with any problems they are facing to fulfill their monetary, emotional and social needs.Social EducatorIn such a profile one needs to plan and organise events related to social issues. A social educator also needs to conduct committee meetings with the Public Affairs as well as Social Issues department.Project CoordinatorAspirants are hired at this job profile in an NGO. Project Coordinators need to help in the planning, budgeting and monitoring process of a project undertaken by an NGO. Apart from this, a Project Coordinator also needs to ensure that the project is undertaken is being conducted within the framework established and all documentation work is complete.
